The pictures in this gallery were taken in times past by photographers both famous and unknown. Street scenes and cityscapes capture period advertising along with everything else – children playing, boats plying the river, a horse-drawn carriage alongside of horseless carriages. These images were culled from archives of museums and libraries, from personal collections, and from the pages of old newspapers and magazines. The photographs were taken for promotional purposes, editorial purposes, or merely for the sake of documentation.
